The page

Writing, markdown, and the ink budget.

How does the page count work?

The meter — PG n/48 — counts paper, not thoughts. One page is 20 lines of rendered height, and you get 48 of them. Blank lines cost ink too, like real paper. There's a triage warning at page 39 and a soft stop at 48.

Does it support markdown?

Yes. Headings, bold, links, quotes, and lists render inline as you type, and "[ ]" becomes a live checkbox you can click. It all stays on a fixed line grid, so the page keeps reading like paper rather than a document.

Do lists continue on their own?

Yes. In a list, pressing Enter carries the marker to the next line (numbered lists count up; checkboxes come back unchecked), so you can keep listing without retyping. Press Enter on an empty item to drop out of the list.

Are there formatting shortcuts?

⌘B wraps the selection in bold, ⌘I in italic (press again to toggle off). Elsewhere: ⌘⏎ rolls, ⇧⌘F files, ⌘K is search & commands, ⇧⌘C opens the cabinet, ⇧⌘B the book, and ⌘L locks the notebook.

What is typewriter mode?

The page opens to your next blank spot and keeps the line you're writing near the middle of the screen — so you're never typing pinned to the very bottom.

How do I add a fresh line at the bottom?

"+ PAGE" appends a new slip to the bottom of the page and drops your cursor there.

Can I skip ahead to a clean page?

Yes — ⌘K then "skip" carries whatever you're writing onto the top of the next page, handy for starting a fresh page per meeting or session (type the heading, then skip, and it comes with you). Like turning a paper page, the rest of the current one is spent (those blank lines count as ink), so a notebook of per-session pages still fills toward its end.
